How to record voice on PC – Simple!

When it comes to how to record voice on PC you don’t really need to go any further from the built in Sound Recorder that comes with all Windows operating systems.

The sound recorder application will give you everything you need for dictation and normal voice recordings. When the application was first designed its main role was for dictating messages for future listening.

The application is hidden away but you can reach it but going to the Windows Start menu – then all programs – then accessories – the entertainment – and you will finally see the application called sound recorder.

The built in Windows Sound Recorder

The sound recorder is easy to understand and looks like a standard dvd player or old cassette player. You need to install a microphone, perhaps your laptop or PC comes with one already built in. If not then plug a microphone into your microphone socket.

Remember to check that your microphone is not set to mute shich seems to be the default. To access your sound controls look in the system tray in the bottom right of the screen or by accessing it from the control panel.

When it comes to recording your voice you need to make sure that the microphone is not immediately in front of your mouth but is close enough to get a clear sound. Aim to place the microphone off to the one side. Adjust the volume so that it stays around the 75% mark when your recording on the sound recorder. You can see this in the green graph indicator which lets you know how the sound recorder is hearing your voice. So prepare to make several recording until you get everything setup and the way you like it.

Windows Sound Recorder With Recording

So with your microphone ready you simply hit the record button. The file will store your voice and give you an indication of the time or length. Try to keep your files short so that they do not grow to large in memory. You need to save them in folders in a safe place. As a hint I tend to store them by subject. Remember that windows has a feature that shows you when they were recorded which will organize your files sequentially. As a rule I try to keep a session in a folder and the files under 10 minutes in length.

I hope this explains how to record voice on PC and hope that you have lots of fun talking to your computer.
